Lovely Cakes and flickr

Here is the lovely pastry/cake shop I mentioned in my last post. It is Pierre Herme's shop in Rue Bonaparte, St Germain des Pres, Paris. If you are ever in Paris it is well worth a visit. The cakes are like works of art and they taste just as good as they look!

This week I finally upgraded my account on flickr to a pro account making uses of my prize of a free upgrade for being a winner of the Moo competition. Over the last few days I have been uploading lots of photos, joining groups and spending way to much time browsing some of the great pictures uploaded by others. if you like photos then flickr is the place to go!

Chihuly

After writing my last post, it prompted me to go and find my photos from the Chihuly at Kew exhibition. Here is a small selection.

I love his use of vibrant colour and how well the sculptures fit into the surrounding plants. They have a magnificent magical quality about them almost as if they are also living forms. They are also so impressive when you look at how many component parts go into each piece. It is quite humbling to consider the amount of man hours it must take to form all the pieces of glass and then construct them into these beautiful structures.
I think I am so drawn to Dale Chihuly's work because he is influenced by similar themes to me within my work: colour, texture, sea forms, plant life.

My interest in Chihuly's work lead me to the Victoria and Albert Museum this weekend. In the entrance hall to the museum they have a piece of Chihuly's work hung like a chandelier suspended over the information and ticket desk. I have seen it before but wanted to get some pictures of it. The VandA is also such a great place to explore, I always see new things everytime I visit.

Henry Moore at Kew

Moore Sculptures Details

Last weekend G and I took advantage of the sunny weather in London and went to Kew Gardens to see the Henry Moore Sculptures.Though it was a freezing day we had a great time and the sculptures really are inspiring viewing, mostly for their momumental scale. All together there are 28 outdoor sculptures on display within the gardens. It was really interesting to see the collection all in one place and to compare the different materials Moore had used. I liked observing how the sculptures reacted to the changing light as the sun began to set and against the stunning backdrop of Kew with its glasshouses and trees.

The exhibition runs until 30th March and is well worth a visit. I had forgotten how much I love Kew as an area to get out of the city for the day, but now I intend to go back soon. Kew also hosted one of my all time favorite exhibitions in 2005 Chihuly at Kew.I must go and find some of the photogaphs.
